When you're in the active service, all you have to do is look around to find people that have something in common with you. Different backgrounds and beliefs hardly matter, when everyone shares the same goals and ambitions. This is the magic of the military. By doing this, you'll immediately put yourself into an environment populated by people that can easily become new social connections. Greet them, talk to them, introduce yourself. The secret of social networking is just being friendly. Sounds easy, right? But the truth is, even just making an effort to talk to people can be difficult for some. Get involved in community activities and events, put yourself in a position to meet people that have similar likes to yours, and wear a friendly smile. You'll find that simply being personable and approachable opens up a lot of doors that can lead to social networking, making new friends and connections. On the Job Getting a new job in the civilian world provides another excellent opportunity for social networking. Though you may feel completely different from those you work with, know that you all have at least one thing in common: you work at the same place. This may sound small, but many wonderful friendships were forged on much less. Simply having the same boss and similar duties provides a common ground.
