No one likes to go through life alone. One of the great things about being in the military is the amount of camaraderie among active and former personnel. In the military you’ll be closer to people than you ever have in your life. Basic training and combat is a extraordinarily bonding experience. So much so that coming out of the military can be an abrupt transition socially, as well as professionally.
One of the hardest things to do in the military is to leave a family behind when you go overseas. It can be just as difficult to not have a support network when you return. Military MeetupsThe military actually makes this quite easy, as there are a number of different occasions for military veterans to get together for social gatherings. These can either be single’s gathering, or more general meetups between former or currently-serving military personnel. Check with your local veterans administration to find lists of local meetups. There are also a number of independent military groups that aren’t directly associated with the local VA, depending on the area.
Military Dating SitesDating sites are hugely popular, but not every dating site will let you seek out people who have former military service. Even a popular dating site that allows you to choose military service might not necessarily have a lot of military personals on the site. A better bet is to go with a site that caters solely to military personnel. There are a lot of them out there, and the list is growing:
- One of the top military singles sites is militaryfriends.com. As the name suggests, it has an emphasis on helping people in the military make friends, or start penpal relationships, in addition to connecting military singles. It’s also got one of the more robust forums.
- Militarysinglesconnection is one of the larger sites out there. It includes chat rooms, expanded profiles, and a lively forum as well.
- Militarylovelinks.com: another popular site for military personnel looking for a relationship. Also open to civilians who are interested in meeting military singles, as are most military singles websites.
There are other military dating sites online, but those are a good start. It’s not a bad idea to sign up with more than one because you can’t guarantee that any site is going to have listings for a large number military singles in your area.
