Are you curious about your veteran benefits? As a veteran, you can receive health care, employment privileges, life insurance coverage, and counseling once you transition out of the military. There are other benefits as well- here are some of them: - You may be eligible to receive payment for your automobile and the other equipment that goes with it (“automobile allowance”).
- You will receive a pension called “Medal of Honor” if an active duty military personnel.
- Those on active duty can receive special housing help, including adapted housing as well as house adaptation grants. This is due to the 2003 Veterans Benefits Act.
- You are guaranteed a home loan if you served 181 days in the military or if you served 90 days in the Gulf War.
- Those who are in active duty and are involved in combat in Iraq are to receive priority care. This is under the 38 USC 8111A, which directed the VHA, on April 17, 2003.
- Military service personnel and those in the reserves can receive up to $400,000 for life insurance (under SGLI). In addition, spouses can receive coverage of up to $100,000. Children, without fail, receive free $10,000 coverage.
- If you served for a minimum of 2 years and on active duty and took part in the Montgomery GI Bill, you can receive education benefits. This may also apply to certain Reserve members and those in the National Guard.
- You may receive help from the VBA for counseling and claims. This is available through the TAP/DTAP program.
