A military education is not just limited to the educational benefits that the military pays for after you leave the ranks and begin to pursue a civilian life.
Your military education starts while you are in the military. All branches of service require their members to choose a trade or specialty while in the service. Your military occupational skills often translate into skills that are required for a civilian position. This means your education in the military can land you a civilian job as soon as you separate from the military. Upon military separation, if you would like to continue in the same career path you occupied in the military, be sure to check with your military education officer. They will help you translate your military skills into comparable civilian job skills. Applying Military Training Towards College Credits
That specialty is sometimes awarded college credit. For example, enlisted in the Air Force as an airman automatically enrolls you in the Community College of the Air Force. Your Air Force training is then applied toward an associate's degree.
Your military education with an accredited institution can even begin during your off-duty hours. Many military friendly colleges will award you college credit for the time that you serve in the military. Your military education can even extend to credit by examination. Colleges may allow you to take exams for your college level courses, upon successful completion of the exam; you will receive credit for that course.
There are a number of options for your military education needs, and as a thank you from your country for your time served; much of your military education comes at little to no cost to you. Money and Time Saving Tips for Military Members
- The American Council on Education was created to recognize the educational value of military training and experience. This will prevent you from taking unecessary college courses wasting time and money.
