Tuition and Education Assistance in the Army

Every branch of the service has the ability to provide tuition assistance to its service members. How much of your tuition is covered and what the eligibility requirements are depends on the branch.
The Army's tuition assistance program pays up to $250 per semester hour of credit with an annual ceiling of $4500 for soldiers enrolled in post-secondary education. The policy also covers textbooks if they are included in the price of tuition.
The Army's tuition assistance program is available to all soldiers on active duty who want to take college level courses during their off-duty hours. Army tuition assistance program managers say that the program is not guaranteed to cover 100 percent of your tuition. The Army will pay 100 percent only if your college fees are $250 per semester credit hour or less. If the fees exceed $250, the Army will not be responsible for covering the difference.
The Army is expediting the tuition assistance enrollment process and minimizing wait times by allowing active duty soldiers to apply for Army tuition assistance and enroll in courses online. If you must withdraw from courses due to military reasons, your Unit Commander information will be required along with the military reason for withdrawal. Your withdrawal request is subject to verification. If the military reason for withdrawal is approved, you will not be required to repay your Army tuition assistance.
Enrolled soldiers may choose to draw funds from their Montgomery GI Bill. Active duty soldiers may receive up to $32,400 for 36 months or more of service. The GI Bill can also be used to cover tuition costs that exceed the Army Tuition Assistance cap.
