Devil dogs looking to further their education can apply for Marine Corps tuition assistance. Marine Corps tuition assistance covers up to $250 per semester credit hour and $4,500 per year.
All active duty marines are eligible to apply for tuition assistance. Marine Corps tuition assistance is available to officers only if they agree to remain on active duty for two years after completing the courses paid for under the tuition assistance program.
Marine Corps tuition assistance funds can be used for vocational-technical, undergraduate, graduate, independent study, and distance learning programs. These courses must be offered by accredited institutions that are recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Marine Corps tuition assistance applicants must first complete a tuition assistance orientation class prior to using their monies. Marines must apply for and receive written authorization for tuition assistance through the proper education office.
Once accepted into the Marine Corps tuition assistance program, a marine must submit a degree plan before exceeding 12 semester hours. Tuition assistance is not to be used for books and cannot be used for courses leading to a lateral or lower level degree than one you posses.
Marine Corps tuition assistance monies must be reimbursed to the Marine Corps if you fail or withdraw from a course. Tuition assistance must be repaid if you fail an undergraduate course or if you receive a "D" in graduate level courses.
Repayment obligations will be waived if you are withdrawing from a course because of duty related issues. The Marine must provide proof such as TAD or PCS orders and a letter endorsed by your commanding officer.
