Military Members Get Education Assistance

No matter which branch of the military you serve, you are eligible for education assistance. Take the time to learn about what education assistance is available to you, dependant upon your individual situation. Here is a brief run-down of the education assistance you may receive:

The Army

The SOCAD is a degree program for the Army. SOCAD stands for the Service members Opportunity Colleges. They feature colleges that have both associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs available to the military, around the globe. These colleges network together to provide you with the education assistance you need as well as transfer credits between them.

The Air Force

The Air Force has something similar to the Army, which is Service member’s Opportunities Colleges (SOC). You can take the classes when you are not on duty and they are also available around the globe for your convenience.

The Navy

The Navy offers education assistance similar to that of the Army and the Air Force. Their colleges are called SOCNAV, which of course is part of the Service members Opportunity Colleges. Since military personnel may transfer from time to time, the SOCNAV guarantees that you can transfer your credits and continue towards completion of your degree, regardless. The Navy also offer distance learning programs.

Other Veteran Education Assistance

The DEA (or Dependents’ Education Assistance) also offer programs for education and training to veterans. The program they offer consists of up to 45 months of education benefits. The benefits are allowed to be utilized for on the job training, an apprenticeship, a degree program, or a certificate.

Some additional benefits are also available to family members and especially children of a deceased or disabled veteran. This is only available in some states, so check with your state to see if you are eligible.
