Many military personnel, like most of us, have credit cards. Credit cards provide the flexibility people need to make the purchases they need to make as soon as they need to make them. However, it can sometimes be difficult to stay on top of credit cards, as multiple cards may be kept in different locations, used for different things and carrying different balances. If you are a member of the armed forces serving overseas, it can be especially difficult to keep track of your credit card finances, but there are ways to make it easier.
Limit The Number Of Credit Cards You HaveYou really don’t need more than two or three credit cards. Store credit cards are completely unnecessary and should be cancelled. Cards issued by major banks should be limited to one or two main cards and a backup. The fewer cards you have, the easier they will be to keep track of.
Pay All Your Bills At The Same TimeYou can arrange for all your bills to come due at once. This way you can pay them all when they come in and not get confused about which cards have been paid this month and which ones haven’t, avoiding any late payment fees or penalties.
Get A Copy Of Your Credit ReportChecking out your credit report at least once a year is mandatory so you can see what your credit power is and make sure you’re aware of all charges being made to your credit card accounts.
Keep Track Of Your CardsNever leave a card lying out in a restaurant, store or public area. As soon as you use the card, return it to a safe place. If you cannot find your card, report it immediately.
Pay Bills OnlineYou can arrange to have your credit card statement sent to you electronically and to pay them in the same manner. Eliminating the paperwork surrounding your credit cards can make them much easier to manage.
