The U.S. Air Force (USAF) is the national military branch that conducts air-to-air combat. It formed on Sept. 18, 1947, as the result of a division from the U.S. Army Air Corps. On a global scale, the USAF has earned a reputation as the largest air force, with the most highly developed level of technology.
